Privacy
In short: this site uses no cookies, does not profile you and does not sell data. Here is exactly what is recorded and why.
Who runs this site
Comunque Mancano is a project by RedApp Lab, the name under which Alessio Monterosso (Italy) develops software; he is the data controller. For any question or request, write to redapplab@gmail.com.
Visit statistics
To understand which pages are used, we count, day by day, how many times each page was viewed, how many times the buttons were used (create, share, calendar, tools) and which external website visits come from (for example "google.com").
We use no cookies or anything else that stores information on your device. The statistics totals contain no IP addresses, identifiers or browser details: only numbers remain, which cannot be traced back to you. Custom countdowns are counted together, without their address. If your browser sends "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", you are not counted at all. Like any request to the site, the statistics request also appears in the technical logs described below.
Custom countdowns
When you create a countdown on the Create page, what you enter (title, date, time, emoji, theme, message, optional year) is stored, together with the creation date, so the short link can work. We do not store who created it. Anyone with the link can see the countdown: do not enter anything you do not want to share. If you are under 13, ask a parent before creating a countdown to share.
Countdowns are kept while the service is running. You can ask for one to be deleted at any time by writing to the address above with its link. If you get a long link instead of a short one, the data is written in the link itself and stored nowhere.
Every shared countdown has a "Report it" link at the bottom of the page. We remove countdowns that are offensive or illegal, and those about a person without their consent when that person asks.
Tools
The date calculators, the Advent calendar and the letter to Santa work entirely in your browser: the dates and text you enter are never sent or stored.
Where the data is and who handles it
The site is hosted on Firebase (Google Cloud). Countdowns and statistics are stored in the europe-west1 region, in Belgium. The site's font is included in the site itself: no requests go to Google Fonts or other services.
Technical logs. Requests handled by the site's functions (creating and opening custom countdowns, their previews and the statistics) are logged by Google Cloud with IP address, browser type, requested address, referring site and time. These logs are deleted automatically after 30 days, and we only look at them to fix errors or stop abuse. For the other pages we receive no visit logs.
Google acts as our service provider (data processor). Some data may be processed outside the European Union, for example in the United States, with the safeguards required by the GDPR: the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and Google's participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Why we process this data
We store countdowns to provide the service you asked for, the link to share (GDPR art. 6(1)(b)). Statistics and technical logs help us understand how the site is used and keep it running and secure, our legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)), which does not require identifying you.
If you write to us
If you write to us, for example to report a countdown or ask for one to be deleted, we use your email address and message only to reply and handle the request. We delete the emails once the request is closed, and after one year at the latest.
Links to Amazon
Some pages contain links to Amazon marked as paid links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases: if you buy something after clicking one, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. On our side we only count how many times each link is clicked, together with the other statistics. Once you are on Amazon, its privacy notice and cookies apply, and Amazon knows that you arrived from our link.
Chrome extension
The "Days until Christmas" extension stores only your countdown choice (a holiday or your own countdown) in Chrome's storage, which syncs it across your devices if sync is on, plus the install date and how many times you opened it, used only to ask once for a rating. It sends no data to us or anyone else.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete data about you, restrict its use or object to it by writing to the address above. Under the GDPR you can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Changes
If what we collect changes, this page is updated before the change takes effect.
